How to set up a competition with Hors Classement entries

In this article, we explain the step-by-step process of how to set up a competition with hors Classement entries.

Setting up a competition with HC and entry rules for HC entries

  • For every competition (class), it is possible to decide, if outside of competition is allowed or not. The checkbox to allow outside of competition is in the add/edit competition form:

  • It is more convenient to use the Dashboard to check, which competitions have HC allowed and to allow HC for competitions that would need it. In the dashboard, there is also statistics on the confirmed HC entries for organizer to be able to check how many entries are done as hors classement .

  • When hors classement is allowed for a competition, by default the same entry rule conditions apply to HC entry as for the normal entry.
  • There is a possibility to set up exclusions from checks, for example:
    • If the normal checks are set for the handicap level Niv 1 as a max level, outside of competition can be bypassed, when the exclusion for HC for this condition is switched on. That means that a combination with Niv 2 or Niv 3 can still enter the class, but only as HC (the checkbox for HC will be switched on and athlete cannot remove it). If combination qualifies both for normal entry and HC, the HC will be the choice of a rider, when doing an entry.
  • Click on "Excl. HC" to exclude condition from being checked. The entry rules are described in more details in the following article: https://equibel-en.helpscoutdocs.com/article/78-competition-entry-rules
  • Please note, only the maximum levels have exclusions activated.

  • It is possible to switch on and off the HC checkbox during the period, when event is open for online entries. This will not have impact on entries that have been already created. The same applies for the Exclusion condition.

To sum up, when HC is used for a competition and HC has exclusions from certain entry rules, for example, the upper licence´s level or max handicap level are not checked, when combination enters as HC, there are the following entry scenarios:

  1. Combination qualifies for both normal entry and HC entry - > athlete can choose freely, if entry is a HC entry or not by switching a HC checkbox for entry in the entry form.
  2. Combination qualifies only to enter as HC -> athlete can make an entry, but HC checkbox will be switched on and cannot be removed by an athlete.
  3. Combination doesn´t qualify for a competition based on normal entry rules and HC rules -> entry cannot be done.

In Starting list and Results

  • The HC badge, if entry is set as HC will be visible from the Masterlist and from the Upcoming page on the rider´s and horse´s profile.
  • The HC status for an entry can be changed via the entry form, if necessary, before exporting entries or in the scoring system, when doing a starting lists. The former is the recommended practice as there might be several changes during the preparation of a starting list and the final statuses of HC is expected to be delivered via results in the entry system.
  • The HC true or false parameter will be passed over to your scoring system and is included into the excel or csv. export files from Masterlist.
  • We expect from Scoring Systems to return the HC parameter together with result.
  • It is possible to change the HC status of any entry from the result´s interface - Edit result:

  • HC entries will always be shown last in the list and instead of a rank HC will be shown:
